The all new Tercel for the 1995 model year had a redesigned exterior and a new engine, offering a stiffer body with better handling, and was one of only a handful of cars in the US to have OBDII in 1995. In Chile the fifth generation was introduced in September 1995 at the FISA auto show. This was the first model year of the Toyota Tercel (fifth generation, L50), 1995 to 1999, which took over from the Toyota Tercel (fourth generation, L40); the 1996 model year follows it.
