The sporting turbocharged models of the P70 series were introduced in January 1986, including the Turbo S, which made the Starlet the first subcompact from a Japanese automaker to offer a high performance variant. The 1986 to 1989 Turbo S carried the EP71 code. It was model year 3 of 5 in the Toyota Starlet (third generation, P70), 1984 to 1989, coming after the 1985 model year and before the 1987 model year. Model year pages for the Toyota Starlet run from 1973 to 1999.
