The P70 series of October 1984 saw the Starlet switch to front wheel drive, which was by then the normal format for cars of this size. The second generation was exported to North America for its last model year, 1984. This was the first model year of the Toyota Starlet (third generation, P70), 1984 to 1989, which took over from the Toyota Starlet (second generation, P60); the 1985 model year follows it.
