In early 1989 a limited edition model based on the Levin GT-APEX called the Black Levin 204 was added to the lineup, with a limited run of 520 units. In May 1989 a minor facelift occurred as well as changes in engine performance, also known as the Kouki generation. It was model year 2 of 3 in the Toyota Sprinter Trueno (AE91 and AE92 series), 1987 to 1990, coming after the 1988 model year and before the 1990 model year.
