The fourth generation was first shown in Las Vegas in September 2015 and released in Japan on 9 December 2015, with North America following in January 2016 and Europe and the Middle East in February. It was the first Prius on Toyota's TNGA modular platform, with a lower center of gravity and a stiffer structure, and a plug-in Prius Prime was developed in parallel. A facelift with new lamps came in December 2018 in Japan, and the generation ran until 2022.
