The second generation reflected the Coke bottle styling trend that appeared internationally during the 1960s and 1970s, which Toyota adopted for only this generation of the Mark II. The Corona name was dropped in Japan. Minor changes and updates came in August 1973, the four cylinder 6R engine was replaced by the 16R, and the 1.8 was discontinued in October 1975. Production of the second generation continued through November 1976, even after the next Mark II was introduced.
