The 60 series was introduced in 1980, still retaining the rugged off road characteristics of previous Land Cruisers while designed to better compete in the emerging sport utility vehicle market. Production of the FJ55 ended in July 1980, and the H diesel engine of the HJ45 was replaced by the 4.0 liter 2H. This was the first model year of the Toyota Land Cruiser (60 series, J60), 1980 to 1983, which took over from the Toyota Land Cruiser (55 series, J50); the 1981 model year follows it. Model year pages for the Toyota Land Cruiser run from 1951 to 2026.
