The J300 series Land Cruiser was unveiled on 9 June 2021, with development led by chief engineer Takami Yokoo on the body on frame GA-F platform, reducing the weight of the vehicle by 200 kg compared with its predecessor. Toyota stopped offering V8 engines in favor of a 3.4 liter twin turbocharged V6 petrol engine and a 3.3 liter twin turbocharged V6 diesel, and a GR Sport variant was offered for the first time. The Japanese model went on sale on 2 August 2021.
