The XU70 gasoline model went on sale in the United States on 18 December 2019 as a 2020 model. Across the Gulf countries it was launched around June and July 2020, and there it is offered only as a hybrid. This was the first model year of the Toyota Highlander (fourth generation, XU70), 2020 to 2026, which took over from the Toyota Highlander (third generation, XU50); the 2021 model year follows it.
