The third generation arrived in April 1974 as a rounder, bigger and heavier Corolla, with Corolla models coded E30 and Sprinters E40, and from the March 1976 facelift E50 and E60. A two door liftback widened the range. It reached North America in late 1974 as a 1975 model at the height of the fuel crisis, when Toyota saw its largest growth in the United States, and it was the longest lived generation, with the original and facelifted cars both built until 1981 in some markets.
