The E70 brought a square edged design in March 1979 and was the last Corolla whose whole range drove the rear wheels. The Corolla had a simpler grille, headlights and tail lights while the Sprinter was more sculptured, and the new A series engines arrived as a running change. Exports started in August 1979, production reached a record of 2,346 cars a day in 1980, and the millionth Corolla of this series was built in February 1983. Wagons and vans stayed in production until 1987.
