The Lexus LX is the full-size flagship SUV of Lexus, the largest and most expensive in the range, sold since January 1996 after manufacturing began in November 1995. All four generations are based heavily on the long-running Toyota Land Cruiser. The first, the LX 450, was developed quickly in the mid 1990s because of threatened United States trade sanctions on Japanese luxury cars, and it was Lexus's first SUV, built almost entirely on the sixth generation Land Cruiser (J80), with a straight-six engine and seats for seven. Priced about 7,000 dollars above the Land Cruiser, it sold over 5,000 units in 1996. The LX 470 followed in 1998 and was built until 2007, the third generation debuted in April 2007 and the fourth in October 2021.
