In 2007 the beige cloth trim was dropped and the base model was only available in two exterior colors. Both stereos had steering wheel mounted audio controls, and in 2007 an auxiliary audio jack was added. Subaru released the 2008 models at the New York International Auto Show in April 2007 with a facelift and a larger 3.6 liter engine. It was not sold in Japan. The Tribeca takes its name from the Tribeca neighborhood of New York City.
