The R1 ended in 2010, after six years of production by Subaru in Japan. It had been a two door version of the R2 on a shorter body and wheelbase, a kei car that did not use up the maximum length that the kei rules allowed, and it had been offered with front or four wheel drive and a CVT. It was the last Subaru built as a kei car at the factory. The R1 is a two-door version of the Subaru R2, but with a shorter body and wheelbase.
