The third generation Crosstrek was revealed in Japan on 15 September 2022, based on the outgoing model, and went on sale in Japan in December 2022 with a cheaper front wheel drive option. It is the first to use the Crosstrek nameplate globally, where earlier generations outside North America were the XV. The North American model debuted at the Chicago Auto Show on 9 February 2023, and the manual transmission was discontinued. Its model years run from 2023 on.
