The third generation Crosstrek was revealed in Japan on 15 September 2022, based on the outgoing model, and went on sale in Japan in December 2022 with a cheaper front wheel drive option. In 2022 Subaru introduced the third generation using the Crosstrek nameplate globally for the first time. Consumer Reports ranked the 2022 Crosstrek number 1 among subcompact SUVs. All generations of the Crosstrek are raised versions of the Subaru Impreza hatchback.
