The Subaru XV production version went on sale in Japan on 25 September 2012, and in North America it was sold as the Subaru XV Crosstrek, unveiled at the 2012 New York International Auto Show. The US model went on sale in 2012 as a 2013 model year vehicle. Production at Tan Chong in Malaysia began on 20 December 2012. All generations of the Crosstrek are raised versions of the Subaru Impreza hatchback. The Crosstrek is a successor to the Outback Sport in North America and the Impreza XV globally.
