For 2021 steering responsive LED headlights with automatic high beams were made standard on all trim levels. The Ascent's release in the Philippines was delayed numerous times owing to the COVID-19 pandemic and it was eventually introduced there in May 2021, under the Evoltis name rather than the one used for Subaru's first battery electric vehicle. The Ascent was first shown as a concept car at the 2017 New York International Auto Show.
