Shelby Lancer

Automobiles

The Shelby Lancer is a limited production hatchback sports sedan based on the Dodge Lancer ES, modified by Shelby Automobiles in Whittier, California, for the 1987 model year and sold under the Shelby name with an announced run of 800 cars, half with a three speed automatic and leather and half with a five speed manual and cloth. It listed at $16,995 against $11,250 for a standard Lancer ES, came only in Graphic Red, and carried a Turbo II 2.2 litre intercooled four cylinder engine with 175 horsepower, a numbered dash plaque, Shelby wheels and a 120 watt Pioneer compact disc stereo. For 1988 and 1989 Dodge built it as the Dodge Lancer Shelby option package, 487 cars in all, and Europe saw it as the Chrysler GTS Shelby.
