MG J-type

Automobiles

The MG J-type was a two-door sports car built from 1932 to 1934, in the Midget tradition, with an updated overhead-camshaft crossflow engine from the Morris Minor family driving the rear wheels through a four-speed gearbox. The line ran from the J1 four-seater and the commonest J2 two-seater to the supercharged J3 of 746 cc built for 750 cc class racing and the pure racing J4. Open cars can be told from the M-type by cut-away door tops, and full-length wings arrived in 1933. Weaknesses included a two-bearing crankshaft that could break if over-revved and cable brakes with small drums.
