The Maserati Mexico is a four-seat grand touring coupe built by Maserati between 1966 and 1972 on the shortened chassis of the first generation Quattroporte, and powered by the same 4.2 and 4.7 litre V8 engines. Its design came from a Vignale prototype by Virginio Vairo shown at the October 1965 Turin motor show; the prototype was sold to the Mexican president Adolfo Lopez Mateos, which gave the model its name. The production car debuted at Rimini in August 1966. The 4.7 litre version was rated at 290 hp and reached 240 to 250 km/h, and the Mexico was the first production Maserati with servo-assisted ventilated disc brakes on all four wheels. A total of 485 were produced.
