The Maserati Bora (Tipo AM117) is a two-seat, rear mid-engined, rear-wheel drive sports car and grand tourer built by Maserati from 1971 to 1978, named after the wind of Trieste. It was the company's first mid-engined road car and its first with four-wheel independent suspension. Giorgetto Giugiaro of Italdesign styled it with a drag coefficient of 0.30, and it used Citroën high-pressure hydraulics to move the pedal box, the driver's seat and the pop-up headlights. Power came from a 4.7 litre V8 of 310 PS, later joined by a 4.9 litre unit, driving through a ZF five-speed transaxle. Maserati built 564 Boras, and the Merak was derived from it.
