The Leone was Subaru's compact car from 1971 to 1994, the replacement for the Subaru 1000 and the predecessor of the Impreza. It was a mass produced four wheel drive passenger car with the Subaru EA boxer engine, and was Subaru's top model until the larger Legacy arrived in 1989. Abroad it was usually sold by trim level, DL, GL or RX, and in North America it became the Loyale by 1990. Italian for lion, the name was used mainly in Japan. This site gives every generation and every model year its own page, in 3 generations: the first generation (1971 to 1978); the second generation (1979 to 1983); the third generation (1984 to 1994).
