The Simca-Fiat 6 CV was a small French family car built under Fiat licence as a direct derivative of the Fiat 508 Balilla. It was made first by SAFAF, the French Fiat company, from 1932 and then by Simca from July 1935, in two series: the first with a three-speed gearbox and 20 hp, the second with four speeds, 24 hp and more aerodynamic bodywork. Launched at the Paris salon of October 1932 as a two-door saloon and a roadster, the range grew to include spiders, torpedos, colonial military versions and light vans. Production in France between 1932 and 1937 reached 26,472 cars, which helped motorise the French middle class, and its hydraulic brakes on all four wheels were still rare on small French cars of the time.
