Simca Aronde

Automobiles

The Simca Aronde was Simca's first original design, earlier models having been based on Fiats, and its first unibody car. It was built in France from 1951 to 1964 in three generations, and its name means swallow in Old French, after the stylised swallow on the company badge. It launched in October 1951 as a four-door saloon with a front-mounted 1,221 cc engine inherited from the Simca 8, and estates, vans and pickups followed, along with coupés and cabriolets, including bodies by Facel and the Grand Large coupé. In May 1952 an Aronde broke five international records over 50,000 kilometres, and in 1953 another covered 100,000 kilometres at Montlhéry. Later versions took the upgraded 1,290 cc Flash engine.
