Rootes Arrow

Automobiles

Rootes Arrow was the factory name of a range of cars built under several badge-engineered marques by the Rootes Group, later Chrysler Europe, from 1966 to 1979 in Europe and until 2005 in Iran as the Paykan. It was among the last Rootes designs and was developed with no influence from the future owner Chrysler. The range is almost always known by its most prolific model, the Hillman Hunter, and also covered the Hillman Minx and Vogue, Humber Sceptre, Singer Gazelle and Vogue, and Sunbeam Rapier and Alpine fastbacks, with a Dodge Husky pickup in South Africa. It was conventional, with a 1725 cc overhead-valve petrol engine, MacPherson strut front suspension and a live rear axle. After Chrysler bought Rootes in 1967 the derivatives were cut back until only the Hunter remained by 1976, and in 1977 it was re-badged a Chrysler.
