The Renault Fluence Z.E. was an electric version of the Renault Fluence compact sedan and part of the Renault Z.E. programme of battery electric vehicles, unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. It had a 22 kWh lithium-ion battery weighing 250 kg that gave an all-electric range of 185 km on the NEDC combined cycle and speeds up to 135 km/h, and a synchronous electric motor with a peak power of 70 kW. It was the first modern electric car enabled for battery swapping, deployed on the Better Place network in Israel and Denmark in 2012, with 948 Better Place cars deployed in Israel and around 400 sold in Denmark by May 2013, when Better Place filed for bankruptcy. A fixed-battery version, the Renault Samsung SM3 Z.E., was sold in South Korea, and global sales of the Fluence Z.E. and SM3 Z.E. totalled 10,600 units through December 2019. Renault later replaced it with the hatchback-only Megane E-Tech Electric.
