MG VA

Automobiles

The MG VA, first sold as the 1.5-litre, was the smallest of the three late-1930s sports saloons, alongside the SA and WA, built between February 1937 and September 1939. It used a tuned four-cylinder Morris pushrod engine with twin SU carburettors and 54 bhp, also found in the Wolseley 12/48 and Morris Twelve, with a four-speed gearbox and hydraulic Lockheed brakes with built-in jacks. The in-house Morris saloon body had the traditional MG grille and two large chromium headlights, with the spare wheel on the left front wing. A police version had a 1,707 cc engine and calibrated speedometer, and a tourer reached just over 76 mph.
