The C257 is the third generation of the Mercedes-Benz CLS range of four-door coupe sedans, launched in 2018 as the successor to the C218 and based heavily on the W213 E-Class. Information about it was released online on 29 November 2017, with a public unveiling at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2018. It is offered only as a sedan, with no plan at the time for a Shooting Brake. It uses a four-link front and five-link rear suspension, comes in rear-wheel drive and 4MATIC all-wheel drive, and in the CLS 53 4MATIC+ an electric motor adds 16 kW and 249 N m and also powers the 48-volt system. Unlike the previous two generations it seats five instead of four. Standard equipment includes LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels and lane keeping assistance, and Mercedes me online services use a built-in LTE module.
