The E80 was launched in Japan in May 1983 and reached Europe three months later. It brought a 16 valve 4A-GE twin cam engine to the rear drive cars and a new 1.8 liter diesel to the range. The millionth Corolla of the E70 series had been built in February of that year. This was the first model year of the Toyota Corolla (fifth generation, E80), 1983 to 1986, which took over from the Toyota Corolla (fourth generation, E70); the 1984 model year follows it. Model year pages for the Toyota Corolla run from 1966 to 2026.
