The new Rover 12 designed by Owen Clegg was first displayed at the November 1911 Olympia Motor Show as a four cylinder supplement to the two cylinder sleeve valve cars. It had a four cylinder water cooled side valve engine of 2297 cubic centimeters with an SU carburettor made by Rover under licence, a three speed transmission and a rear axle with worm drive. Around 5,000 were made before the First World War.
