When Margaret Thatcher entered Downing Street in 1979 after her election victory, she was driven in a 1972 model Rover P5B. As testament to the car's suitability for such service, the P5B was a favourite with the British government. A 1972 P5B was in the fifth year of the V8 powered P5 series, with 160 PS from its Buick designed engine. The Rover Company built the P5B in this year. The car was sold as a saloon or a coupe.
