An automatic version of the P5 tested by The Motor magazine in 1960 had a top speed of 95.0 miles per hour and could accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 17.1 seconds. Overdrive became standard on the manual car from May 1960. In 1960 the P5 was the Rover 3 litre of the Mark I series, which the Rover Company produced until 1962, the most luxurious car in its range. Rover built the P5 in this second year of sales.
