In 1992 a 1.4 liter PSA TUD diesel engine from the Citroen AX and Peugeot 106 was launched on the Rover Metro, the first time the Metro had been available with a diesel engine. The proven 998 cc and 1275 cc A-Series engines had given way to the all new K-series engine, and the Rover Metro of 1992 was built at Longbridge by the Rover Group. The diesel was a French engine, built by PSA. It was the first Metro with a diesel engine.
