By 1907 Rover had discontinued the backbone frame of the Rover 8 and was using instead an ash chassis with steel flitch plates, as it did on its other cars. The Rover 8 had been introduced in 1904 as the first production car of the company, and it was now three years into its run with a single cylinder engine of 1327 cubic centimeters and a conventional frame. It had been built since 1904. The chassis was by then a steel and ash structure of conventional form.
