In 1988 a five door liftback or hatchback version, referred to as a fastback, became available, and an 820 Fastback with a single carburettor version of the O series engine was launched for the fleet market. In February 1988 the 2.5 liter engine was enlarged to 2.7 liters, the instrumentation was changed to gauges from a different builder, and build quality had vastly improved. The liftback was a fleet market addition.
