In 1988 the Range Rover won Playboy magazine's Best 4x4 award in the United States, where the network of dealers grew from 36 to 65 by the end of the year. With fuel injection replacing carburettors, the car was easier to adapt to American emissions rules, but demand far exceeded supply and Range Rovers were often resold for more than their retail price. The Rover Group was privatised and became part of British Aerospace the same year.
