Vertical grille inserts replaced the horizontal bars of 1969 and the Grand Prix nameplates moved from the lower cowls to the rear C pillars for 1970. The optional 428 cubic inch V8 was replaced by a new 370 horsepower 455, and a total of 65,750 Grand Prixes were made in 1970. Due to the success of the 1969 Grand Prix other General Motors divisions followed suit and introduced similar cars for 1970, including the Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
