1980 Pontiac Firebird

Automobiles

In 1980 ever increasing emissions restrictions led Pontiac to drop all of its large displacement engines, and the 301, offered in 1979 as a credit option, was now the standard engine, with no manual transmission available and the three speed Turbo Hydramatic 350 fitted to all. The Redbird Esprit was discontinued and the Yellowbird Esprit introduced, and the limited edition Y85 Turbo Trans Am Pace Car was featured in the Indianapolis 500.
