After the full size Pontiacs were discontinued the Bonneville name was swapped onto the midsize LeMans, which had been produced since 1978 along with the Chevrolet Malibu, Oldsmobile Cutlass and Buick Century. General Motors also began marketing the Bonneville in Canada for the first time in 1984, and the 1982 to 1986 Bonnevilles were the smallest and the last of the old breed, with rear wheel drive and body on frame construction. Its model years run from 1982 to 1986.
