The second car to use the Manta name was launched in August 1975, a two door three box car mechanically based directly on the newly redesigned Opel Ascona, with an overall design influenced by the 1975 Chevrolet Monza. The Vauxhall equivalent of the Manta was the Cavalier Mark 1 Sports Hatch and the Cavalier Mark 1 Coupe. In 1977 a three door hatchback version appeared. Its model years run from 1976 to 1988.
