In 1977 a three door hatchback version of the Manta B appeared to complement the existing two door booted car. The Manta B was a mildly sporting coupe built by Opel on the Ascona platform, whose Vauxhall equivalent was the Cavalier Mark 1 Sports Hatch and Coupe, and it competed with the Ford Capri. The 1977 Manta B added the three door hatchback, which was the same car as the Vauxhall Cavalier Sports Hatch.
