In 1989 the Tredia was in its eighth year with front wheel drive, struts and trailing arms, front disc brakes and a choice of engines up to the 135 PS turbo 1.8 liter. The Super Shift gearbox remained available, though a regular five speed had replaced it in many models, and the car was still assembled with the Cordia in New Zealand. In Japan the Tredia was sold at a specific retail chain called Car Plaza. The Tredia was one of the first cars imported and sold to America by Mitsubishi without the involvement of Chrysler.
