A minor change of the sedan in February 1986 replaced the engines with the new Cyclone ECI multi point engines with a combustion chamber of a greatly revised shape, and in October the Cyclone V6 2.0 liter, the 6G71, was fitted, so the four cylinder two liter was left as the turbo only. The hardtop was face lifted at the same time. The Sigma of 1986 was the fourth year of the front wheel drive generation. The sedan of the fifth generation Galant was sold in North America as the Galant Sigma and the Sigma.
