1996 Mitsubishi Pajero

Automobiles

In 1996 the 3.0 liter V6 engine was revised, staying SOHC but changing to 24 valves. From 1996 to 2009 the Montero Dakar name was used for a short wheelbase variant with the 6G72 engine and a five speed manual. Mitsubishi Motors began using the Pajero as the basis for the JSDF vehicle Type 73 Shin in 1996, replacing the Jeep based Kyu in the fleet. The Pajero had success in the Paris Dakar Rally. It was sold as the Montero in North America, Spain and Latin America and the Shogun in the United Kingdom.
