An intercooler was also added to the 2.5 liter turbo diesel models in 1990. The first generation Pajero platform was later built under license by Hyundai Precision Products as the Hyundai Galloper from 1991 to 2003. The first generation, the L040 and L140, was in its ninth and last full year, with the short wheelbase three door and long wheelbase five door, powered by a 3.0 liter V6 or a 2.5 liter turbo diesel. The Pajero name comes from the Geoffroy's cat, Leopardus pajeros, and it was sold as the Montero in North America and Shogun in the United Kingdom.
