A five door variant of the Colt had earlier been released in 2002, to succeed the Mirage name. Despite the introduction of the new generation Lancer sedan to Australia in 2002, the CE continued alongside it until production ended in 2003. In 2002 the Mirage ended its first run, replaced in the subcompact segment by the Colt, until the name returned in 2012. By 2003 the Mirage and its derivatives had been completely phased out of mainstream Japanese production.
