The Legnum went on sale in September 1996 together with the full model change of the Galant, as the station wagon version of the eighth generation Galant, developed to take on the Subaru Legacy Touring Wagon, which was selling very well at the time. It had four engines: a 1.8 liter GDI four cylinder, a V6 of 2.0 liters, a V6 of 2.5 liters and a 2.5 liter turbo V6. It won the Japan Car of the Year in 1996. The Legnum was the station wagon of the eighth generation Galant, developed against the Subaru Legacy Touring Wagon.
