The Evolution VII GT-A was launched on 29 January 2002 and available at the Galant and Car Plaza Mitsubishi dealers, with an automatic drivetrain that replaced the Tiptronic. For a time Proton entered a rebadged version, the Proton PERT. The introduction of the Evolution VII also marked the first time an automatic drivetrain was included within the model lineup. All generations use two liter intercooled turbo inline four cylinder engines and all wheel drive systems.
