A facelifted Dion was launched in Japan in May 2002, with a minor change on 7 June 2002 that changed the headlamps, grille, bonnet, rear gate and front and rear bumpers, and moved the rear license plate. The 2.0 liter engine was replaced by the 4G94, nearly common with the Galant, and a 1.8 liter 4G93 turbo was added, the first turbo minivan since the Chariot Resort Runner GT. All 2.0 liter cars had a CVT. The name Dion comes from Dionysus, the Greek god of wine and joy.
